LRDLandscape Rock Direct

Plan before you order

Visualize and measure your yard

Measure your yard by satellite or AR, preview our rock in your space, and prepare the details needed for a delivery quote.

Before you begin

Have the delivery address ready.

Choose the exact bed, path, border, or yard section.

Decide whether you want satellite measurement or an AR preview.

Take photos of the dump location and any tight access.

How to get started

Four steps from an empty yard to a useful quote request

01

Find the project area

Enter the delivery address for satellite view, or choose AR on a compatible Android phone using Chrome.

02

Outline and measure

Trace the part of the yard you want to cover, then confirm the square footage and planned material depth.

03

Preview the material

Compare rock styles in the space and note the material name that best fits the project.

04

Send the quote details

Include the measurement, depth, material, delivery address, dump location, and access photos if space is tight.

Interactive tool

Start with your property

On a phone, satellite view is the easiest place to start; use AR when you are standing in the project area on a compatible device.

Measuring recommendations

Pick a realistic depth before calculating quantity

These are useful starting points, not final order quantities. Ground condition, slope, compaction, rock size, and the existing base can change what the project needs.

Decorative gravel

Start with 2 inches

A common planning depth for broad ground cover; use more where the surface is uneven or the rock is larger.

DG paths

Plan 2 to 3 inches

Choose the deeper end when the base needs correction, and allow for compaction before ordering.

River rock

Plan 3 to 4 inches

Larger rounded rock and dry creek beds typically need more depth, weight, and allowance around curves.

Mulch beds

Start with 2 to 3 inches

Measure only the planting beds and subtract large hardscape, trunks, or areas that will stay uncovered.

Square footage

Length x width = square feet

Decorative rock at 2 inches

Square feet / 162 = cubic yards

Decorative rock at 3 inches

Square feet / 108 = cubic yards

Raised beds

Length x width x depth in feet / 27 = cubic yards

These examples use the measurements from our project guides and current listed material prices. Spend estimates cover material only; delivery, tax, waste, compaction allowance, and site conditions are separate.

Front Yard Rock Refresh material planning example

Front Yard Rock Refresh

Measure a 24 ft x 18 ft front bed. 24 x 18 = 432 sq ft. At 2 inches deep, divide by 162 sq ft per yard. 432 / 162 = 2.7 yards, so plan around 3 yards before allowance.

Example material
Pathway Gravel 3/4"
Planning quantity
About 3 cubic yards
Material-only estimate
$186

Side Yard Walkway material planning example

Side Yard Walkway

A 4 ft x 45 ft side yard is 180 sq ft. At 2 inches deep, 180 / 162 = 1.1 yards. At 3 inches deep, use 180 / 108 = 1.7 yards.

Example material
Gold DG
Planning quantity
About 1.1 to 1.7 cubic yards
Material-only estimate
$94–$145

Dry Creek Bed material planning example

Dry Creek Bed

A creek bed 3 ft wide x 35 ft long is 105 sq ft. At 3 inches deep, 105 / 108 = 1 yard. Wider curves and larger rock may need more.

Example material
Sierra River Rock 1" - 2"
Planning quantity
About 1 cubic yard
Material-only estimate
$153

Measure Your Yard FAQ

Measuring and planning questions

Use the visualizer for the first estimate, then send the project details so material quantity and delivery access can be confirmed.

Should I use satellite view or AR?

Satellite view is best for tracing larger front yards, side yards, and broad beds from above. AR is useful for an on-site preview and requires Chrome on a compatible Android phone.

How do I measure an irregular yard?

Break the area into smaller rectangles, measure each one, and add the square footage together. Curves and narrow borders should receive a reasonable allowance before the final quantity is confirmed.

Is the visualizer quantity the final amount I should order?

No. Treat it as a planning estimate. Slope, compaction, existing material, rock size, moisture, and uneven ground can change the final quantity, so confirm the measurements and depth before scheduling delivery.

How much extra material should I allow?

Simple rectangular areas may need only a small allowance, while curved, sloped, uneven, or heavily compacted areas can need more. Send the measurements and photos so the quote can account for the actual project.

What should I include with my quote request?

Send the material name, square footage, planned depth, delivery address, dump location, timing, and photos of gates, wires, slopes, or tight truck access.

Ready for a real quote?

Send the measurements and project details.
